Established in 1955 by the visionary industrialist Mr. BM Birla, BIT Mesra was founded with a clear vision to offer its young minds a space, where their imagination could take wings and their ideas fruition. For over 6 decades now, the institute has nurtured minds with a rich heritage of academic excellence, developing learning frameworks that have been well ahead of times.

From its inception till date, BIT Mesra continues to boldly tread paths uncharted. As a result, it has successfully conceived and implemented initiatives that have culminated in many firsts.

First technical institution to establish a Department of Space Engineering & Rocketry way back in 1964
First to establish static rocket test firing facility
First to offer P.G. programmes in association with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)
Initiated the concept of Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park (BIT-STEP) well before it was adopted as a national model
First institution to be granted autonomous status in 1972 under UGC Act

Prof Jeganathan of Birla Institute of Technology Mesra Ranchi has been chosen for the INSA Teacher Award 2020 in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences in recognition of his noteworthy contributions to teaching and inspirational mentoring of students in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences

Dr. Manik Ghosh has been awarded APTI Information Communication Technology (ICT) Educator Award.

Dr. Manik Ghosh Associate Professor Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology has been awarded APTI Information Communication Technology (ICT) Educator Award which carry a citation and a cash prize from Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India.

Prof. (Dr.) R. N. Gupta has been nominated as Member in Advisory Group of South East Asian Regional Forum of FIP-WHO

Prof. (Dr.) R. N. Gupta of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology has been nominated as Member in Advisory Group of SEAR Pharm Forum - South East Asian Regional Forum of FIP-WHO and for their ongoing two projects i. Impact of Covid 19 and ii. Collaborative project with WADA - World Anti Doping Agency.

BIT Alumni Dr. Arvin Sahaym who was recently awarded the Huber Deans Fellowship in Entrepreneurship

Our alumni all around the world have always worked hard with determination in making a difference in different fields. One such distinguished and esteemed alumni of our institution is Dr. Arvin Sahaym who was recently awarded the Huber Deans Fellowship in Entrepreneurship. He is currently faculty member of Carson College of Business USA. He completed his BE in Computer Science and MBA from BIT Mesra in the year 1990 and 1993 respectively

Mr Karan Bajaj who holds the degree of BE for Mechanical Engineering from the batch 1996-2000 is the founder of Whitehat Jr an online coding platform for kids
