The Animal House of BIT, Mesra is coming under the preview of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Technology. It was established in the year 2002 and got approval with CPCSEA registration number (621/02/AC/CPCSEA) by CPCSEA division , Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change, Govt of India on 25-June-2002.This CPCSEA approval Registration is valid up to 5 years. Currently, the Animal House is registered with CPCSEA registration number 1968/PO/Re/S/17/CPCSEA. The Animal house is situated 500 meter away from the Main building and Pharmacy Department. The total area of Animal house is 427 square meter with 10 rooms. Each room is designed for specific purpose of animal species and facilitated with well-equipped ventilator and AC with proper drainage system as per the CPCSEA guidelines. There are Rat room, Mice room, Quarantine room, Issue rooms for (Rat & Mice), Rabbit room, store room, Guinea-pig room, wash room and office room beside that main entrance of animal house has provision of good corridor and CCTV Camera. Two permanent attendants are employed for cleaning, preparing food and maintenance of well-being of animals in Animal house beside that one veterinary doctor is appointed for routine health check up of animals. The Animal House is a very important component of our Institute as it supports in the academic research of PG (Pharmacology) and aids in research publication produced by Ph. D research scholar through their project research.

Our animal house boasts separate rat and rabbit rooms, providing controlled environments for ethically conducted research studies. These dedicated facilities ensure optimal conditions for the welfare and care of our animal models, fostering rigorous experimentation and yielding valuable insights in biomedical research.

Our animal house boasts a diverse array of mouse strains, including Swiss albino mice and C57BL/6 mice.

We house an extensive range of strains including Wistar rats, SD rats, and New Zealand rabbits.

Researchers are actively engaged in diverse animal studies within our specialized animal house facilities. Through meticulous experimentation and ethical protocols, they aim to uncover insights into various biological and pharmacological phenomena, advancing our understanding of disease mechanisms and therapeutic interventions.
