Pharmacognosy

The Pharmacognosy Lab, situated within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (BIT Mesra) in Ranchi, has been a cornerstone of scientific inquiry since its establishment in 1998. With a robust foundation in pharmaceutical sciences and technology, the lab has spearheaded research endeavors focused on uncovering the therapeutic potential of natural products. Boasting a rich legacy of over 100 publications, the lab stands as a testament to BIT Mesra's commitment to advancing pharmaceutical research. Equipped with state-of-the-art scientific instruments, the lab provides a conducive environment for scholars and researchers to conduct precise analyses and make groundbreaking discoveries. Through collaborative efforts within the department and beyond, the Pharmacognosy Lab continues to contribute significantly to the field, shaping the future of pharmaceutical innovation and drug discovery.

The Pharmacognosy Lab prides itself on its highly equipped facilities, featuring a range of advanced instruments to support cutting-edge research. Among these are essential tools such as the cold centrifuge and rota evaporator, which enable precise extraction and analysis of bioactive compounds from natural sources.

In addition to the cold centrifuge and rota evaporator, our Pharmacognosy Lab is furnished with a comprehensive suite of analytical instruments, including HPLC, GC-MS, Lyophilizer, and FTIR spectrometers.

These sophisticated tools empower researchers to characterize and quantify bioactive compounds with unparalleled precision, facilitating in-depth pharmacological studies and quality assessment of natural products.

With these state-of-the-art instruments at our disposal, researchers can delve deeper into the intricate chemistry of medicinal plants, paving the way for the discovery of novel therapeutics and pharmaceutical applications.

With a commitment to excellence and innovation, our high-equipped facility in pharmacognosy serves as a beacon of scientific advancement in the exploration of medicinal plants and their therapeutic potential.

Pharmacognosy Lab houses a small yet invaluable specimen herbarium comprising over 100 botanical samples. This collection serves as a vital resource for researchers, providing a tangible repository of plant specimens for taxonomical identification, morphological studies, and phytochemical investigations.
