M.Tech. Remote Sensing

Course Details

M.Tech. Remote Sensing course is a 2 year degree programme. This M.Tech. Program generally starts each year in the month of July, but the application and advertisement process start from February onwards. The course is conducted in English language. First year focuses on Theoretical and Practical aspects of Remote Sensing, GIS, GPS, Photogrammetry, Programming, Geostatistics and various advanced geo-spatial modelling and applications. Second year focuses mainly on developing Independent Research Skill.

In the first semester, the basic concepts, know-how procedures related to Geospatial Technology are taught to the students. The second semester delves deep into advanced concepts, modelling in GI domain along with modern photogrammetry using Satellite and UAV along with various Elective Modules. In due course the students are also provided with an opportunity to select OPEN ELECTIVE courses conducted across the university under choice based credit system (CBCS). Students are also taught additional skills such as project management, research methods, data acquisition, etc. The Third and Fourth semesters focus only on the RESEARCH THESIS. In the Research duration the student is supervised or co-supervised by the faculty. The Masters program requires 68 credit points (70 credit points for batches before 2021). The detailed credit information is provided in the Course Structure.

Option for summer internship at various leading research centres in India is also provided time to time to encourage Academia-Industry Partnership. Students are also taken to field and other National Mapping organisations to expose them with actual process and activities in GI domain. 


Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold EITHER

a) B.E. / B.Tech in any branch of Engineering or B. Arch with first class or minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST), 

OR 

b) Masters degree with 55% (50% for SC/ST), [after graduating with a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in 10+2+3 system from a recognized University] in Physics / Mathematics / Statistics /Electronics /Computer Science / Computer Applications / Geo-Informatics / GIS / Remote Sensing / Information Science / Geography / Geology / Geophysics / Environmental Science / Atmospheric Sciences / Botany / Climatology / Chemistry / Disaster Management / Agriculture / Forestry / Meteorology / Oceanography / Soil Science / Town Planning / Zoology / Fisheries / allied disciplines

c) Candidates must have stereoscopic vision and normal colour vision

Candidates who fulfill the above requirements may apply for the course. Shortlisted Non-GATE candidates will have to appear for written examination followed by interview.

Shortlisted GATE candidates are exempted from written examinations and will have to appear only for interview.

Note: Candidates admitted in M.Tech programmes with valid GATE score will be considered to receive scholarships only if approved and amount released by the funding agency.

 

Important Dates

  1. Tentative date of admission announcement: February every year.
  2. Admission process: Between May and June every year.
  3. Commencement of classes: Second week of July every year.
