Research & Innovation in Physics

The Department of Physics is actively involved in advanced scientific research and innovation in diverse interdisciplinary areas. Faculty members are conducting sponsored research projects funded by DST, DRDO, BRNS, AICTE, ARDB and UGC. The department promotes modern experimental techniques, collaborative research and technology-driven scientific development through well-equipped laboratories and advanced instrumentation facilities.

Theoretical & Computational Physics

The Theoretical Physics group at the Department of Physics, Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, focuses on fundamental and interdisciplinary research in Statistical Physics, Thermodynamics, Environmental Physics, Gravitation, Biophysics, and Cosmology. The group develops theoretical models and computational approaches to understand complex physical systems ranging from microscopic interactions to large-scale cosmic phenomena. Through research and academic collaboration, it contributes to advancing knowledge in both basic and applied aspects of modern physics.

Experimental Physics

The Experimental Physics research activities at the Physics Department, Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, encompass a wide range of contemporary scientific fields. Major research areas include Condensed Matter Physics with emphasis on 2-D materials, ceramics, tribology, solar-cell materials, anti-corrosion coatings, magnetic materials, biomaterials, semiconductors, and optical materials. The department also conducts advanced research in Plasma Physics, Nuclear Physics, and Photonics, addressing both fundamental scientific questions and emerging technological applications.
