  • Microwave-plasma interaction, plasma aerodynamics.

Highlights of Major Scientific Innovations:

  1. For the first time in India, we developed an atmospheric pressure glow discharge plasma source using Dielectric barrier discharge technique. We have also shown use of simple Langmuir probes to characterize such plasmas.
  1. For the first time internationally, we observed and analyzed stripe-shaped plasma patterns as ionization waves in a planar DBD plasma at atmospheric pressure. 
  1. We designed innovative pixel structures (plasma micro-cells) for a Plasma Display Panel to enhance its VUV as well as luminous efficiency with reduced cost. These plasma cell designs are also applicable to plasma-based UV/VUV sources, lightening devices and biomedical plasma sources. We have filed 6 Indian patents for these innovations.
  1. We developed and tested a simple method of DBD plasmas to check defective pixels (plasma cells) in a large plasma display panel.
  1. Currently our research focus is to design and develop handheld/flexible atmospheric-pressure plasma sources for UV-based air/water purification, biomedical treatment and sterilization.

  • Outstanding Reviewer Award -2018 from Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, IOP Publishing, UK.
  • ICTP Grant received to attend Joint IAEA-ICTP School on Atomic Processes in Plasmas, 27 February – 3 March 2017 by International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy.
  • Bharat Shiksha Ratan Award-2014  for academic excellence conferred by GSHEG, Delhi during a National Seminar on 10th Feb 2014.
  • ISCA Best Paper (Poster) Presentation Award in Physical Sciences during 101st Indian Science Congress, University of Jammu, 3-7 February 2014.
  • DST, Govt of India-International Travel support (ITS) for young scientists, received to attend 4th International Conference on Plasma Medicine (ICPM-4) at Orleans, France, 17-21 June 2012.
