Overview

Among best animation colleges in India, BIT, Mesra, Off-campus Jaipur is definitely acquires one of the top positions. Due to the new mindset of people in the environment of globalization, the entertainment industry, particularly film and television, has been witnessing high growth, technology intervention and experimentation. Animation & Multimedia is the area that contains all these main aspects. The beauty of this segment lies in conveying the message in a very interesting and simple way.  Understanding the market demand, three year degree course has been introduced in the Animation and Multimedia Department to train budding artists with the skills of 2D and 3D animation with multimedia applications.

Research

Consultancy Projects: Animation & Multimedia Dept. has successfully completed the following animation projects on social & medical awareness for Ministry of Health, Govt. of Rajasthan. These projects were being broadcasted regularly in Doordarshan & other channels.

  1. The Animated Project on BPL Card under Rajasthan Health Systems Development Project
  2. The Animated Project on Health Care Waste Management
  3. The Animated Project on Patient Counsellor

 

 The short films and other media contents developed by faculty and students are regularly featured at national and international exhibitions and film festivals.

Workshop on Development of Scripts for Animated Short Films on Critical Life Skills in collaboration with NCERT

Phase-2 From 30th October 2023 to 03rd November-2023

Animatics for short Animated films based on "Critical life skills" were produced in a five-day workshop by the Department of Animation and Multimedia, Jaipur Campus of Birla Institute of Technology Mesra and Cell for National Center for Literacy (CNCL) of NCERT, New Delhi.
In this workshop, 3 expert members from  CNCL dept. Of NCERT and all the faculty members & 50 students of the Dept. of Animation and Multimedia, BIT Jaipur Campus, together created Animatics for 10 Animated short films.
During this workshop many tasks were done like review of recorded scripts, discussion, designing of characters, selection of sounds, etc.

The key speaker of the program was Prof. Usha Sharma( In-charge CNCL dept. of NCERT New Delhi).
Dr.PiyushTiwari(Director of BIT Jaipur Campus) and Dr. Vibhuti Pandey( In-charge of Animation and Multimedia Dept.,BIT) said that moving forward in this direction, we will be organizing such more workshops in future in collaboration with NCERT New Delhi and all these Animated short films will be available to everyone on Disha portal under Navbharat Literacy Campaign.

At the conclusion of the workshop, all the faculty members and students were honored with certificates by NCERT.

Phase-1 From 13th to 15th September, 2023

Workshop on Development of Scripts for Animated Short Films on Critical Life Skills

NCERT, and Cell for National Center for Literacy, New Delhi, Govt. of India organized a three days workshop on the Development of Animated Videos on Critical Life Skills at Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, Off-Campus Jaipur from 13th - 15th Sep. 2023 (10:00 AM To 4:00 PM each day) The workshop was for Six hours duration daily and it was planned specially for all faculty members of Animation & Multimedia Department.

The following agenda was covered during the workshop:

1.     Story Building for Animation  

2.    Scripting, build up, and introduction to simple visual scripting

3.    Visual Scripting; Simple ways of using Cinematic language and creation of shots to Visual Scripting and storyboarding

4.         Practical assignments was allotted to each participant

In this, 3 days of workshop scripts were made and then depending upon the complexity of each topic changes were also made as per the requirement of animation aesthetics. All the faculty members suggested adding Characterization, Expressions, Timing, and Humor in the scripts.

What Next: NCERT and BIT Jaipur will combine together and work on Animation Short Films on Critical Life Skills.

Recent Research Initiatives Taken by Animation & Multimedia Dept.

  1. 'Albelo Jaipur', a thesis film made in the Animation & Multimedia Department (in Year 2018) to celebrate Jaipur with its art, Culture and Heritage. The film explores the different versions and dimensions of Jaipur through techniques like Timelapse, Hyperlapse, and Live action film making. The film has been selected in the following prestigious film festivals in Year 2019 & 20:

Also, conducted one day Seminar on Animation Film Making and Screening of International Animation Films. Invited Session taken by internationally acclaimed Film Makers under Jaipur International Film Festival, 7th to 12th January 2020. Also, a special session on Experimental Animation taken by Mr. Dhimant Vyas, renowned international animator, which was participated by all the students and faculty members of Animation & Multimedia Dept. Achievements

  1. One of our student alumni (Sonam Shekhawat) received a very prestigious award (Emmy Award, USA) for animation writing. Also, she has successfully scripted more than 100 Episodes of “Chota-Bheem”. Besides she has been associated with many films for Script Writing.

 

  1. Dr. Vibhuti Pandya, selected as one of the Jury Member in Jaipur International Film Festival Awards & New Delhi International Film Festival Awards in Year 2021 & 2022.

 

  1. Ms. Joshita Sharma, Pass out student alumni of M.Sc. Animation Design, BIT Jaipur Campus Recently, she received a prestigious award “India Book of Record” for creating the largest National Emblem using thread and nails. She made a large size replica of the National Emblem of India, measuring 16 feet x 9 feet, on black painted plywood using strings of golden thread and iron nails portraying ‘Satyamev Jayate’ along with the Lion Capital of Ashoka, as confirmed on December 3, 2021.

 

  1. One of our student alumni (Chandan Singh) received a best runner up award in SSFF (Student short film festival 2021) organized by IDC, IIT BOMBAY. Out of 95 films only two films were nominated in the live action film category. 

 

  1. A pass out student (in Year 2021, June) - Archee Vijayvargiya, got selected in National Institute of Design (NID) with 5th Ranking in All India)

 

  1. A recently passed out student- Elvira Mishra got selected for higher studies in the prestigious university- Glasgow University in Year 2021 (Sept).
