DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES
The Department of Management Studies at Birla Institute of Technology, Off Campus Patna, was established in 2013. It began offering postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, including MBA (Master of Business Administration) and BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) and PhD (Full time and Part Time). The MBA and BBA programmes admit 60 students each. The MBA is a two-year full-time course, and the BBA is a four-year full-time program with an exit option after a three-year. The students opting for four years get Bachelor’s Degree with Honours or Bachelor’s Degree - Honours with Research. Both programmes aim to build strong managerial and analytical skills, preparing students to meet industry demands.
Programme Structure
Both the programs are based on NEP2020. In the first two years (BBA)/ first year (MBA), students study the fundamentals of business strategies and management across various functional areas. In the later years, students choose specialisations and work on live industry projects under faculty supervision. Students also prepare project feasibility reports to develop entrepreneurial skills. The programmes offer dual specialisations in Marketing, IT, Finance, HR, Digital Marketing, and Business Analytics.
Pedagogy
The institute adopts a holistic and industry-oriented teaching approach through methods such as Classroom teaching, Case-based learning, Guest lectures by industry experts, academics, entrepreneurs, and senior bureaucrats, Educational excursions and industrial visits, Personality development programmes and workshops by corporate trainers, and Industry interface to keep up with corporate trends
Department Highlights
The Department has successfully completed externally funded research projects with support from UGC, ICSSR, DST, and BSBB, Government of Bihar. It has also organized several academic events, including the recent National Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability and Digital Transformation in Business and Management (AISDTBM–2026) and the AICTE-sponsored IDE BootCamp Phase 2. In addition, the Department conducts faculty development programmes, workshops, seminars, conclaves, and management development programmes on themes such as research methodology, finance, human resources, business simulation, entrepreneurship, and personality development.
