Department of Applied Chemistry, BIT Patna has been established in 2006 as an extension centre of Department of Applied Chemistry, BIT Mesra. The Department supports undergraduate and Ph.D programmes offered by the Institute in pure and applied chemistry. At present, Department of Applied Chemistry has three faculties. The Department of Applied Chemistry is committed to high quality research programmes supported by UGC and major thrust areas of research activities include – Biopolymers and Bio-composites, Co-ordination Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry. We also conduct subsidiary classes (theory as well as practical) for IM.Sc students belonging to the other Departments in addition to regular chemistry classes for BE students.
The apparatus present in research laboratory are as follows: Jar-test apparatus (flocculator); Dissolution rate test apparatus; Turbidity meter; Colony counter; Conductivity meter; pH meter; UV-Visible spectrophotometer; Incubator; Autoclave. We have also several apparatus in BE Laboratory to conduct the experiments such as B.O.D. incubator; Muffle Furnace; Hot air Oven; Orsat apparatus; Magnetic stirrer; Bomb calorimeter; Colorimeter; Water distillation unit; Redwood viscometer. We have also purchased compression molding machine.
