Freezing the moments-Nikon Workshop

“In photography, there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality.”

— Alfred Stieglitz

Photography is the skill, job, or process of producing photographs. Photography is an art of capturing a moment and owning the emotions within it. The Photographic Society of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, organized a Photography workshop in collaboration with Nikon India on 1st September, 2019. The workshop kicked off at 11:00 A.M. in Lecture Hall -2. The workshop, typically organized for the Freshers, was the first encounter of the K19s with the members of Photographic Society.

In the beginning, the Associate Dean Students’ Welfare, Dr. Ashoke Sharan, felicitated the winners of the online event of Photographic Society, ‘The Scribbled Frames’. The winners, Manashvi Sharma, Rajnish Kumar, and Pandarinath Gunda, in the First, Second and Third positions respectively, were awarded certificates. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Sinha, an alumnus of Birsa Institute of Technology, Sindri. He started off by sharing the story of his career. He started off as an IT company employee but soon moved on to work in FIITJEE. With photography being his passion, he worked as a wedding photographer. He was given an offer by Nikon, and since then he had been working in Nikon.

He started the workshop by explaining the Five Friends of Photography, namely Shutter, Aperture, Exposure, ISO, and Flash, to the attendees. He went on to teach the students the basic modes of a Nikon Camera, the prerequisites of a good photograph and basic information about lighting and focusing. The students were mesmerised and excited by the interesting and interactive workshop. Mr. Rajiv then encouraged the students to participate in ‘Shutterbug’, an online photography competition being organised by Nikon.

The workshop ended with a group photograph of students and the organizers. All in all, the workshop was a wonderful yet informative experience for everyone.
