Jharkhand School Environmental Festival

Jharkhand School Environmental Festival

The Environmental Protection and Awareness Club (EPAC) of BIT Mesra, in its altruistic zeal towards the betterment of the environment, organized a Science Fair, in association with the Jharkhand Science and Environment Fest’17 (JSEF), for students of classes 8th-12th from schools across Jharkhand. With an aim to raise awareness amongst students and educate them about the environment and the kinds of threats it faces, various events were conducted which combined fun and frolic with education. This version of the event was unique in many ways. It was the first time that government schools along with private schools participated in the event. Moreover, a Dhanbad based NGO, Safal was also invited to participate in the event by the Dean Student Welfare, who bore their travel expenses.  The fest, which began at 10:00 a.m. and went on till 2 p.m., took place at multiple venues across the campus.

EPAC-2There was immense support from the BIT administration as the Dean Student Welfare, along with many other concerned faculty members, took out the time to grace the fair with their presence and judged certain events as well. A debate was conducted, testing the speaking skills of the participants as well as their understanding of current environmental issues and events like Ad-Sense and Science Exhibition put their creativity and quick wit to test. A highly challenging environmental quiz was organized that greatly piqued their enthusiasm. The fest was attended by around 400 school going kids who participated zealously in all the events.
