Clash of the Clubs – Club Futsal 4.0

For decades now, Futsal has been a popular and much-loved sporting discipline, especially in South America and southern Europe. It has proved to be a breeding ground for some of the best football players in the world. And now slowly it is taking over the world as one of the most entertaining sporting events. Keeping up with the trend, the Sports Mentorship and Adventure Club (SMAC) of BIT Mesra, conducted its annual event of the semester, Club Futsal v4.0 from 24th August 2019.

The matches took place in the grounds of Hostels 1 and 2, and a total of 23 clubs and societies participated in the knockout-style tournament. The event kicked off with the inaugural match between IETE and Dance club at H1 and FAS vs Srijan at H2, in which IETE and FAS emerged as winners. As the tournament proceeded, some thrilling, high-intensity games of club futsal were witnessed, and a total of 16 teams qualified for the next round. The second round of matches started in the latter half of the day at around 4:30 P.M. Following the preliminary matches, the teams of FAS, SMAC, BIOTS, Rotaract, NSS, Dhwani, EDC and IET were able to make into the quarter-finals.

Later in the day, two of the most sensational quarter-finals were played between FAS and BIOTS and between Dhwani and NSS. The nail-biting matches engrossed and kept the spectators on their toes. After a neck-to-neck competition,Dhwani and FAS were able to make through to the semis.

The next day was called off due to unexpected rains and wet fields and no matches were played on 25th of August and futsal was postponed till next week. The event resumed on 31st of August wherein SMAC and Rotaract were the first ones to lock horns. The match kicked off at 10:30 AM, where SMAC emerges victorious. The last quarter-final took place between the teams of  IET and EDC from 11.00 A.M. in which EDC easily overturned their opponents. The top 4 clubs which made to the semi-finals were SMAC, FAS, Dhwani and EDC.

In the first semifinal, SMAC showcased classical passing skills in its quest to eliminate FAS, who put up a tough fight. The second semi-final was a stimulating one, with Dhwani and EDC vigorously clashing against each other, in their quest to reach the finals. The finals saw the defending champions SMAC go up against the underdogs, EDC who demonstrated remarkable coordination, character and spirit to have made it this far in the tournament. The thrilling match kept the audience spellbound, with some heated moments between the players of both teams. In a cliff-hanger finale, SMAC emerged as champions defeating EDC with a score of 2-0 in an extended match. Club Futsal, thus ended on a victorious note, with all the clubs and societies awaiting its return with fervor.
