VLSI Design Lab is one of the icons of Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering of Birla Institute of Technology Mesra Ranchi. This lab is well equipped with latest design & engineering software’s: 1. Cadence Analog& Digital IC Design Tools with UMC90nm & gpdk45nm CMOS Technology library, 2-Silvako Software, 3- Mentor Graphics, 4-Xilinx’s, 5-Active HDL, 6- Visual TCAD etc. In this lab number of Govt. funded projects are going on such as: 1- Design of Ultra Low Power CMOS Temperature Sensor Cells in VLSI funded by DST New Delhi & DRDL Hyderabad cost of Rs.26.7 lakhs (status: completed). 2- Development of VLSI Design Course (Pedagogy Project: E-learning materials, status: pilot phase completed and main phase under review) funded by MHRD New Delhi cost of Rs.10 lakhs. 3- Design of Ultra Low Power CMOS Temperature Sensors for Aerospace Applications funded by RESPOND ISRO Bangalore cost of Rs.25 lakhs. Numbers of UG, PG and Ph.D. students are working in this lab and gaining excellent knowledge and publishing good quality papers and in process to developing novel products. VLSI Lab is NDA signed with IMEC Belgium for fabrication of designed ICs under DST Project. This lab has also collaboration with SCL Chandigarh for fabrication of designed ICs in this lab under ISRO project.
