Professional Background

Dr. Abhishek Tiwari is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science with over a decade of academic, teaching, and research experience, specializing in Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare. He currently serves at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, and has previously held faculty positions at Bennett University (Times of India Group), Galgotias Educational Institutions, ABES Engineering College, and ITM University.  He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence (HCL Group R&D), where his research focused on deep learning–based frameworks for sparse diffusion MRI analysis. His work addresses clinically relevant challenges in neuroimaging, particularly early diagnosis of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Tiwari has published extensively in Q1 SCI journals and top-tier international conferences (Core Rank A/A*), including ICCV, ACML, ICPR, and WACV. He is the inventor of an Indian utility patent in AI-driven diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder and the author of an international research monograph on diffusion MRI.  His professional contributions span teaching, mentoring, funded research, patents, and global academic collaborations, with a strong commitment to advancing explainable, ethical, and energy-efficient AI for real-world healthcare impact.

Research Areas
  • Diagnosis and Prognosis of disease based on Deep Learning based framework.

  • Computational Diffusion MRI Brain Tractography

  • Computer Vision/ Deep Learning for Medical Imaging

Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare with a strong focus on deep learning–driven medical image analysis, particularly diffusion MRI, white-matter tractography, and sparse imaging. My research advances early diagnosis and biomarker discovery for neurological and psychiatric disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, depression) through transformer-based models, computational imaging, explainable AI, and clinically deployable systems.
