Research Statement: Our research deals with theoretical and numerical investigations of electrokinetic flow phenomena, including electrophoresis, electroosmosis, and diffusiophoresis. Electrokinetic flow phenomena occur near a charged surface under an imposed electric field or concentration gradient, typically when the length scale is an order of a nanometer. Nanoparticles suspended in an aqueous solution migrate under the reaction of an externally applied potential gradient (or concentration), and this phenomenon is known as electrophoresis (or diffusiophoresis). Electrophoresis and diffusiophoresis have broad applications in lab-on-a-chip devices for drug delivery, particle sorting, DNA sequencing, etc. Nanoparticles may be rigid, fully porous, core-shell particles, and liquid droplets. We develop mathematical models to investigate these particles' electrophoretic and diffusiophoretic motion through numerical and analytical solutions. Our research contributed significantly to analyze the impact of the surface hydrophobicity of the particles on the flow phenomena.
