Professional Background

Dr. Susmita Palmal is an experienced academic and researcher in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. She is currently serving as a Regular Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (Lalpur Campus), Ranchi. She has previously held faculty positions at Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and Ramgarh Engineering College, Jharkhand.

Dr. Palmal earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Patna. Her research primarily focuses on bioinformatics, biomedical informatics, deep learning, machine learning, graph neural networks, multi-objective optimization, and artificial intelligence—with a strong emphasis on cancer prognosis and gene expression analysis. She also gained early research experience at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, where she worked on pattern recognition and classification techniques for biological data.

Dr. Palmal has over seven years of teaching experience in computer science, with interests spanning both theoretical and applied areas. Her research has appeared in journals such as Scientific Reports, Applied Soft Computing, and the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics. She has also presented at international conferences like IJCNN and ICONIP. Additionally, she has qualified the UGC-NET in Computer Science and Applications.
