BIT NOIDA CAMPUS

Department of Animation & Multimedia @ BIT Noida Campus:

BIT is the pioneer University to start Animation and Multimedia Under- graduate course in India. The B.Sc. Animation and Multimedia programme was started under University Grants Commission of India’s Innovative Program Scheme in the year 2004.

After 20 years of existence, the Department of Animation and Multimedia, Noida campus is the proud home of many achievements and firsts. This wide acceptance of the program is a result of the unique curriculum in accordance with National Education Policy Guidelines 2020. Apart from being the first institution to offer a degree programme in Animation and Multimedia in our country, the department has consistently been rated as the best Animation and Multimedia school in the NCR by the Hindustan Times and other survey engines since 2010. On a Pan Indian rating scale our department proudly ranks with the likes IDC IIT Bombay, NID Ahmedabad and so on. Further, the pedagogy does not remain confined either to the classrooms or the computer workstations but entails the students to actively participate in rigorous field studies and action research.

Design Lab:

The department has high-end Computer Lab equipped with latest versions of graphics, 3d modeling, animation, video editing and game design software, pen tablets for digital painting.

Drawing Lab:

A 2D lab for drawing with 40 light boxes, line-testing facility, dummies, and mannequins. Sufficient resources are available to pull together a professional level short or animation movie. 

Film Studio:

A studio with professional lighting facilities for filmmaking and photography, DSLR camera with accessories, for still and video. Vfx and Compositing training facilities

Production Lab:

A production lab with light box and spacious environment for project, research and other related academic discussions is available for students.

Workshops and Guest Lectures:

Animation and Multimedia department regularly organizes workshops, conferences, seminars, competitions, film-festivals etc. for multifaceted exposure of students.

Our students have won laurels at various prestigious national- international platforms such as National / International Science Film Festival, CMS Vatavaran, Ficci Frames, Blackberry Hackathon etc. The Animation department at Noida Campus as also organized international workshops, funded by ministries like the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology and supported by American Universities like the Kent State University. Similarly, the department has also supported DST as an academic partner to host their National Science film festival in Guwahati where the student’s film from the department won the highly prestigious Silver Beaver Award.

BIT JAIPUR CAMPUS:

Program Overview

The B.Sc. Animation & Multimedia program is a 3-years/ 4-years degree course (as per NEP-2020 guidelines) currently being offered at its Off-Campuses Jaipur and Noida. This is a program of 6-Semesters/ 8-Semesters and on successful completion, the student will be awarded a Degree of B.Sc. Animation & Multimedia.

The Birla Institute of Technology was the first institute in India to set up a full-fledged degree course in B.Sc. (Animation & Multimedia) in 2004. The Animation industry in India is breaking through into a prosperous era, offering exclusive career opportunities. There is an acute shortage of professionals in Animation and Gaming and Multimedia. The course specializes in the rapid development of artistic and technological skills, necessary for achieving a successful career in animation and multimedia. There are ample job opportunities after graduation such as 2D OR 3D Character Animator, Script Writer, Storyboard Artist, Modeler, Rigger, Texture and Lighting Artist, Compositor, VFX Artist, Editor, Pre –Production Designer, Game Designer, Matt Painter, Graphics Designer, UI/UX designer and Live Action or Documentary film makers.

The fundamental philosophy of the course is to impart to the students a variety of skills and knowledge required for diverse range of career options in animation and multimedia. The course is designed in such a way that it covers all aspects of Multimedia, Gaming and animation Film Making Process. Students get in–depth knowledge of different mediums in Animation and Graphics such as 2D Classical & Digital Animation, Concept Art, Character & Story Board Designing, 3D (Character Animation & Modeling), Graphics & Web designing and Audio–Video Production. The course covers all technologies from basic clay modeling to computer aided modeling and designing. Sufficient technical and industry focused education is imparted to enable student to enter relevant professionals fields or pursue higher studies in this field. For higher studies BIT Jaipur Campus offers M.Sc. in Animation Design.

Achievements & Research Strength of the Department

BIT is an esteemed research-based institution committed to advancing both top-tier academic programs and cutting-edge research initiatives. With a focus on elevating academic content through quality research endeavors, BIT Jaipur Campus boasts comprehensive infrastructure facilities conducive to fostering excellence in research pursuits. Notably, our Animation & Multimedia Department has achieved significant milestones, including the successful completion of 10 short films on Critical Life Skills for NCERT, Government of India. Additionally, we have executed two animation projects addressing social and medical awareness for the Ministry of Health, Government of Rajasthan, with these projects regularly aired on platforms such as Doordarshan and other channels. The faculty and students' creations are prominently showcased at national and international exhibitions and film festivals, highlighting our commitment to innovation and creativity. Among our recent achievements, we proudly present the development of an International Comic book titled "Chai Pe Croissant," depicting the rich tapestry of cultural exchange between India and France. Furthermore, we have completed an animated short film on Contract Management for LIMPICO SARL, a prominent company based in France. Presently, our faculty members and students are engrossed in the design phase of an international animation project, embodying our dedication to pushing boundaries and fostering global collaboration.   

Main Facilities, Labs and Equipment

Building & Campus: The institute is built up in about 10 Acre land (40000 Sq M). The built up area is about 6700 Sq M consisting of 14 Class Rooms, 15 Laboratories, Computer labs  with 495 computers, Mechanical Workshop, Seminar Hall, Common Computer/Internet Access Centre with 59 Computers, Library Hall, Canteen Hall, Indoor Sports & Gymnasium Hall (indoor -outdoor), Music Room, Student Rooms for Boys and Girls and Administrative block.

The institute has high speed optical fiber-based Wi-Fi facility throughout the campus for internet connectivity. Student facilities and academic blocks are fully Air-conditioned.

The institute has quality lab and software infrastructure. All required software and advanced lab equipment are available in the institute to conduct offered courses along with equipment required for Mechanical Workshop. There is a well-equipped Multimedia lab in the campus.

The department has two high-tech laboratories having over 60 machines of HP, iMac  Apple and Dell. There is one drawing studio equipped with 30 Classical Animation Disks including 30 hi-end pen tablets and line test machine. The department has one Visual Effects Lab equipped with hi-end Apple (I-MAC) Computer Systems for advance compositing & editing. The department has enough equipment for lighting, Stop motion animation and latest digital camera, 3D printer, VR headset etc. with the objective of giving the students adequate practical exposure, the department has latest versions of all required software. The software available of Animation Courses are  Adobe CC All App –(Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After effects, Adobe Animate, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe In design, Adobe Audition, Adobe Lightroom Classic), Autodesk Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine, Krita, Monkey Jam, etc. To enhance the communication skills of the students the institution has fully equipped Digital English Language Lab.

Library:

The institute library has a good collection of text and reference books along with regular subscription of international & national journals, magazines, newspapers etc. The digital library is also provided with high end computers.

Communication Skills and proficiency in IT Software tools are two key components of the efficient execution and success in professional environment now days. The institute provides ample training to the students through following resources;

Faculty:

All the faculty members are well qualified and have a good academic, industrial and research background. Faculty members have been selected as per UGC/AICTE norms and based on high merit standards of BIT, Mesra. All Selections are made centrally by Main Campus and the faculty are placed on regular basis in UGC grade as per 7^th pay commission recommendations.

Student Activities (Technical, Sports & Other Extra Curricular Activities)

The institute has good facilities for various student activities that include annual sports, technical and cultural events. Three major annual events are organized every year:

Student Development Activities in Animation & Multimedia Department

The academic excellence, which is a unique feature of BIT, Mesra, focuses on the Case Method of teaching which the primary tool for learning at BIT. Besides, seminars, lectures, workshops, educational trips, film festivals, art exhibition and industrial visits facilitate effective learning amongst the students. The students are over enthusiastic and excited to participate in the extra -curricular activities held in campus or outside the campus in other institutions. Students indulge themselves in various technical clubs based on different interests and they organize various events both technical and intellectual.

The technical club operating in the department is:

1. Animation Film Club (activities related to animation- flip-book, classical animation, animation movie-making, comic making, visual effects etc.)

SAARC Jaipur (Student Alumni Association Relationship Cell)

BIT has strong Alumni cell with strength, and all students have access to Alumni Knowledge and Placement resources throughout the world. Prominent Alumni are well connected with the Institute through the BITMAA cell. Alumni cell annual meetings are conducted by student cell – SARC Jaipur

Accommodation Facility

Limited Girls Hostel in the campus and Vetted PG facilities are available nearby (around 200 Meters) the institute campus. Regular visits are done by institute team to monitor the facilities provided by the PG owners specially hygiene, food quality and security of the students etc.

Canteen

BIT Jaipur campus has a good spacious Canteen and offers hygienic food services, meeting the student satisfaction at a very reasonable price. It is supervised by the committee of BIT staff and student members.

Medical Facilities

Medical counsellors are available. Periodical visit of the Doctors are carried out in the campus. First aid and sick room facility is available in the premises

Eligibility Criteria and other conditions:

• Candidates must have passed Class12 / Equivalent Qualifying Examination with minimum 50% (45%for SC/ ST/ PwD) marks (average of 4 core subjects)
• Percentage of marks in Class12/Equivalent Qualifying Examination to be computed as average of English + Best 3 other core subjects.
• Candidates appearing in Class 12^th examination may also apply.

Notes:

• Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1 October 1999 in case of General category and 1 October 1994 in case of SC/ ST/ PwD are eligible for admission. Date of Birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board Class X (High School) certificate only will be considered as authentic.
• Candidates with foreign diplomas should see the EdCIL website for equivalence (http://www.edcil.co.in), and if required should obtain an equivalence certificate from the evaluation division of the AIU (websitehttp://www.aiuweb.org).
• In case any Board awards grades instead of marks, the calculation of equivalent marks will be based on the procedure prescribed by the Board.
• At any level of the studies [Class X or Class XII], a candidate / applicant must have passed all the required subjects at that level from the same Board.

Required List of Documents

Candidates must carry the following documents at the time of physical reporting for verification of documents/ admission as well as one set of photocopies:

1. 1. A print-out of the duly completed online form
2. 2. One recent colour photograph [same as uploaded on the form]
   3. Following original documents / certificates:
      • Pass certificate of Class X (for age proof)
      • Mark sheet of Class10
      • Mark sheet of Class12/Intermediate or equivalent
      • Caste certificate (if applicable), which should be in proper format and signed by appropriate authority of rank not less than SDO.
      • Candidates belonging to other special categories (Persons with Disability [PwD] / Ward of BIT Employee / Kashmiri Migrant / Economically Weaker Section) must provide photocopy of certificate in proper format from appropriate authority.
      • Photo identification:(Driving license, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar Card, School/College ID, are acceptable)
      • Transfer Certificate
      • Migration Certificate

If provisionally admitted, all the above documents in original (except the original Photo ID) together with photocopies will be retained by the Institute for some time.

Reservations:

1. For all programs at the Institute, which are supported by any of the respective State Governments, the reservation criteria for the state quota are as per the norms of the respective State Government.
2. For all other programs the reservation criteria for SC & ST are as per the statutory norms of Central Govt. (SC-15%&ST-7.5%)
3. The Institute observes statutory reservation for Persons with Disability (5%).
4. Up to 1 seat at its all Off Campuses is reserved for candidates who are Sons or Daughters of Kashmiri Migrant who otherwise have qualified for admissions.
5. Up to 10% seats (over and above of sanction intake) at all Campuses are reserved for candidates belonging to Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
6. 50% of the total seats are reserved for candidates who have passed / are appearing for their qualifying examination (Class XII) from the state in which Campus is located.(The “State of Eligibility” of a candidate for the purpose will be determined based on location of his/her School /College where (s) / he has passed / is appearing for the qualifying examination/ Class XII).

[Incase sufficient numbers of suitable candidates from any group are not available, the Institute reserves the right to fill the seats from the other group].

However, the final reservation proportion will depend on notification, if any, issued by competent authority and as accepted by the Institute.
