Department of Animation & Multimedia @ BIT Noida Campus:

BIT is the pioneer University to start Animation and Multimedia Under- graduate course in India. The B.Sc. Animation and Multimedia programme was started under University Grants Commission of India’s Innovative Program Scheme in the year 2004.

After 20 years of existence, the Department of Animation and Multimedia, Noida campus is the proud home of many achievements and firsts. This wide acceptance of the program is a result of the unique curriculum in accordance with National Education Policy Guidelines 2020. Apart from being the first institution to offer a degree programme in Animation and Multimedia in our country, the department has consistently been rated as the best Animation and Multimedia school in the NCR by the Hindustan Times and other survey engines since 2010. On a Pan Indian rating scale our department proudly ranks with the likes IDC IIT Bombay, NID Ahmedabad and so on. Further, the pedagogy does not remain confined either to the classrooms or the computer workstations but entails the students to actively participate in rigorous field studies and action research.

Design Lab:

The department has high-end Computer Lab equipped with latest versions of graphics, 3d modeling, animation, video editing and game design software, pen tablets for digital painting.

Drawing Lab:

A 2D lab for drawing with 40 light boxes, line-testing facility, dummies, and mannequins. Sufficient resources are available to pull together a professional level short or animation movie. 

Film Studio:

A studio with professional lighting facilities for filmmaking and photography, DSLR camera with accessories, for still and video. Vfx and Compositing training facilities

Production Lab:

A production lab with light box and spacious environment for project, research and other related academic discussions is available for students.

Workshops and Guest Lectures:

Animation and Multimedia department regularly organizes workshops, conferences, seminars, competitions, film-festivals etc. for multifaceted exposure of students.

Student Achievements:

Our students have won laurels at various prestigious national- international platforms such as National / International Science Film Festival, CMS Vatavaran, Ficci Frames, Blackberry Hackathon etc. The Animation department at Noida Campus as also organized international workshops, funded by ministries like the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology and supported by American Universities like the Kent State University. Similarly, the department has also supported DST as an academic partner to host their National Science film festival in Guwahati where the student’s film from the department won the highly prestigious Silver Beaver Award.

BIT JAIPUR CAMPUS

Birla Institute of Technology, Jaipur Campus is an integral part of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (Ranchi) established in 1995. The focus of the institute is to provide quality education in Engineering, Sciences, Animation & multimedia and Management disciplines with technology and professional exposure through innovative programs & practices. Achievements & Research Strength of the Department

BIT is a distinguished research-oriented institution committed to advancing high-quality academic programs alongside innovative research initiatives. With a strong emphasis on enriching academic content through impactful research, the BIT Jaipur campus offers robust infrastructure designed to support excellence in scholarly and creative pursuits.

The Animation & Multimedia Department has achieved several notable milestones. These include the successful production of two short films on air pollution for Columbia University, USA, and ten short films on Critical Life Skills for NCERT, Government of India, all of which are featured on the official NCERT website and YouTube channel. Additionally, the department has executed two animation projects focused on social and medical awareness for the Ministry of Health, Government of Rajasthan; these projects are regularly broadcast on Doordarshan and other platforms.

The creative works of our faculty and students are consistently showcased at national and international exhibitions and film festivals, reflecting our commitment to innovation and artistic excellence. Among our recent accomplishments is the development of an international comic book titled “Chai Pe Croissant,” which celebrates the cultural exchange between India and France. We have also completed an animated short film on Contract Management for LIMPICO SARL, a reputed France-based company.

Currently, our faculty members and students are actively engaged in the design phase of an international animation project, further strengthening our global outlook and collaborative spirit. In addition, the Animation & Multimedia Department has recently established an international collaboration with the Nil Desperandum Foundation, Poland, to develop an animation and comics-based project centered on historical narratives.

Main Facilities, Labs and Equipment

Building & Campus: The institute is built up in about 10 Acre land (40000 Sq M). The built up area is about 6700 Sq M consisting of 14 Class Rooms, 15 Laboratories, Computer labs  with 495 computers, Mechanical Workshop, Seminar Hall, Common Computer/Internet Access Centre with 59 Computers, Library Hall, Canteen Hall, Indoor Sports & Gymnasium Hall (indoor -outdoor), Music Room, Student Rooms for Boys and Girls and Administrative block.

The institute has high speed optical fiber-based Wi-Fi facility throughout the campus for internet connectivity. Student facilities and academic blocks are fully Air-conditioned.

The institute has quality lab and software infrastructure. All required software and advanced lab equipment are available in the institute to conduct offered courses along with equipment required for Mechanical Workshop. There is a well-equipped Multimedia lab in the campus.

Facilities, Labs and Equipment available in Animation & Multimedia Department

The department is equipped with four state-of-the-art laboratories: Multimedia Lab, Animation Lab, Audio-Visual (VFX) Lab, and Game Design Lab, collectively housing over 50 high-performance systems from leading brands such as HP, Apple (iMac), and Dell. In addition, the department features a dedicated Drawing Studio with 30 classical animation discs, 30 high-end pen tablets, and a line test machine to support traditional and digital animation practices.

A specialized Visual Effects Lab, outfitted with advanced Apple iMac systems, facilitates high-end compositing and editing work. The department also provides a wide range of equipment, including professional lighting setups, stop-motion animation kits, the latest digital cameras, a 3D printer, and VR headsets, ensuring comprehensive hands-on learning experiences.

To support practical training, the department is equipped with the latest versions of industry-standard software, including Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Animate, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Audition, and Lightroom Classic), Autodesk Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine, Krita, and MonkeyJam, among others.

Furthermore, to enhance students’ communication skills, the institution offers a fully equipped Digital English Language Lab.

Library:

The institute library has a good collection of text and reference books along with regular subscription of international & national journals, magazines, newspapers etc. The digital library is also provided with high end computers.

Faculty:

All the faculty members are well qualified and have a good academic, industrial and research background. Faculty members have been selected as per UGC/AICTE norms and based on high merit standards of BIT, Mesra. All Selections are made centrally by Main Campus and the faculty are placed on regular basis in UGC grade as per 7^th pay commission recommendations.

Student Development Activities in Animation & Multimedia Department

The academic excellence, which is a unique feature of BIT, Mesra, focuses on the Case Method of teaching which the primary tool for learning at BIT. Besides, seminars, lectures, workshops, educational trips, film festivals, art exhibition and industrial visits facilitate effective learning amongst the students. The students are over enthusiastic and excited to participate in the extra -curricular activities held in campus or outside the campus in other institutions. Students indulge themselves in various technical clubs based on different interests and they organize various events both technical and intellectual.

The technical club operating in the department is:

BIT has strong Alumni cell with strength, and all students have access to Alumni Knowledge and Placement resources throughout the world. Prominent Alumni are well connected with the Institute through the BITMAA cell. Alumni cell annual meetings are conducted by student cell – SARC Jaipur

Accommodation Facility

Limited Girls Hostel in the campus and Vetted PG facilities are available nearby (around 200 Meters) the institute campus. Regular visits are done by institute team to monitor the facilities provided by the PG owners specially hygiene, food quality and security of the students etc.

Canteen

BIT Jaipur campus has a good spacious Canteen and offers hygienic food services, meeting the student satisfaction at a very reasonable price. It is supervised by the committee of BIT staff and student members.

Medical Facilities

Medical counsellors are available. Periodical visit of the Doctors are carried out in the campus. First aid and sick room facility is available in the premises

Eligibility Criteria and other conditions:

• Candidates must have passed Class12 / Equivalent Qualifying Examination with minimum 50% (45%for SC/ ST/ PwD) marks (average of 4 core subjects)
• Percentage of marks in Class12/Equivalent Qualifying Examination to be computed as average of English + Best 3 other core subjects.
• Candidates appearing in Class 12^th examination may apply after publication of results.

Notes:

• Candidates with foreign diplomas should see the EdCIL website for equivalence (http://www.edcil.co.in), and if required should obtain an equivalence certificate from the evaluation division of the AIU (websitehttp://www.aiuweb.org).
• In case any Board awards grades instead of marks, the calculation of equivalent marks will be based on the procedure prescribed by the Board.
• At any level of the studies [Class X or Class XII], a candidate / applicant must have passed all the required subjects at that level from the same Board.

If provisionally admitted, all the above documents in original (except the original Photo ID) together with photocopies will be retained by the Institute for some time.

Reservations:

1. For all programs at the Institute which are supported by any of the respective State Governments, the reservation criteria for the state quota are as per the norms of the respective State Government.

2. For all other programs the reservation criteria for OBC-NCL, SC & ST are as per the statutory norms of Central Govt. (OBC-27.5%, SC -15% & ST - 7.5%)
3. The Institute observes statutory reservation for Persons with Disability (5%).
4. Upto 10% seats (over and above the sanctioned intake) at all Campuses are reserved for candidates belonging to Economically Weaker Section (EWS).                                                                                                                             However, the final reservation proportion will depend on notification, if any, issued by competent authority and as accepted by the Institute.
