DEPARTMENT OF BIO-ENGINEERING
The Department of Bio-Engineering (Formerly known as Department of Biotechnology) was established in 2002 with financial support from the Department of Agriculture, Government of Jharkhand, with objectives like providing education and training facilities, carrying out application oriented research, developing in-house technologies and promoting consultancy services in various areas of Biotechnology. The Department of Bio-Engineering has been engaged in imparting international standard quality education and research in the field of Bio-science, Bio-technology and Bio-engineering and in promoting collaboration with Academia, Industries and Research Organizations at National and International level.
CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE ON BIORESOURCES AND BIOPROSPECTING
The Aims of Centre of Excellence, Department of Bio-Engineering, BIT Mesra is to deploy, use, exploit and leverage biotechnology as an effective tool for catalyzing accelerated economic growth by sustainably harnessing and converting its bio-wealth into economic wealth on one hand and preserving the same on the other.
ABOUT THE LECTURE SERIES
Biochemical and Bioprocess Engineering exploits the knowledge of biological and engineering sciences to “Bring Engineering to Life.” The discipline is responsible for translating the discoveries of life science into practical products, processes, or systems that can serve the needs of society. The bioprocess engineer analyzes the properties of biological material and works with them to discover beneficial uses. Common bioprocess engineering applications include: the production of biofuels, design and operation of fermentation systems, development of food processing systems, production of biopharmaceuticals, application and testing of product quality, separation technologies and design of instrumentation to monitor and control biological processes. In summary, the biochemical engineers play an important role in the existing multibillion-dollar fermentation industries responsible for the production of ethanol, amino acids and other organic acids, antibiotics, and other specialty products.
The objective of this lecture series is to provide awareness to academician and researcher about the current development and different aspects of biochemical and bioprocess engineering
