The BIT Extension Centre at Lalpur, Ranchi started initially with part-time postgraduate M.E. courses in the disciplines of Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The city being an important industrial and commercial hub, the primary objective of the centre was the benefit of officers working in various Ranchi based Public Sector Undertakings, Private industries, Banks, etc, who wished to upgrade their educational qualifications. The MBA, MCA and DCA courses were started subsequently with laboratory classes being conducted on Sundays and holidays at the Mesra campus.
Currently the Lalpur Extension Centre has over 1768 students on its rolls of which almost 560 are postgraduate students.
Some highlights
- Fulltime B.Sc. Computer Science and B.Sc. Electronics courses for girls were started in 1997
- BCA course for girls commenced in 1998, and later was extended for boys too.
- In 1999, M.Sc. Information technology and M.Sc. Electronics and Telecommunication courses were introduced for girls only.
