Joined Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (a subsidiary of Coal India Limited) on 23rd March 1982 as Executive Trainee.

  • From 1983-86 worked as Design Engineer in CMPDI.
  • From 1986-89 worked as Executive Engineer in CMPDI.
  • From 1989-93 worked as Senior Executive Engineer in CMPDI.
  • From 1993-2000 worked as Superintendent Engineer in CMPDI.
  • From 2001-07 worked as Deputy Chief Engineer in CMPDI.

Joined academics in Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, in 2007 as Reader.

Contribution to the Mining  industry  of India

  • Requested by Coal India as a member of a high-powered inquiry committee to investigate the cause and mitigation of fatal (5 persons) dragline dump failure of Jayant opencast mine, Northern Coalfield Limited.  
  • Requested by Coal India to investigate the cause and mitigation of fatal (2 persons) dragline dump failure of Sasti opencast mine, Western Coalfield Limited.
  • Requested by Coal India to investigate the cause and mitigation of fatal (1 person) dragline dump failure of   Umrer opencast mine, Western Coalfield Limited.
  • Requested by Coal India to investigate the cause and mitigation of fatal (23 persons) dump and high wall failure of Rajmahal (Lalmatia) opencast coal mine, Eastern coalfield Limited
  • Requested by South  Eastern Coalfield to predict occurrence of Mining landslide which saved more than 10 human lives.

  • Development of guidelines to predict optimum distance between dragline  & Shovel-dumper dump. - CIL R&D grant - 27 lakhs. (Rated excellent  by Ministry of Coal). [In  both cases, it was  implemented  by Coal India]
  • Development of guidelines for dragline dump profile- CIL R&D grant - 59 lakhs. (Rated excellent  by Ministry of Coal)

On-going R&D Projects as PI:-

  • Development of guidelines for design of all tiers of shovel-dumper dump above dragline dump, with delineation of phreatic surface, within dragline dump, throughout the year and validation study on two dragline mines of Coal India Limited (CIL) - CIL R&D grant - 75.30 lakhs.
