  Professional Background
 

Dr. Shakti Pattanayak is currently working as an Assistant Professor (Senior Grade) in the Department of pharmaceutical Technology & Sciences, Birla Institute of Technology Mesra (BIT), Ranchi, India since last 9 years. After joining at BIT, Mesra he had worked as postdoctoral researcher at Faculty of Medicine, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, IL (21st University in World ranking, 9th Best University to work and 2nd best outside USA in the world ranking of Universities and a home University to Sir Albert Einstein). During his research in Israel, he mostly worked on the mTOR (a serine/threonine kinase) signaling in PC differentiation, chronic inflammation (cancerous condition) and also on cancer-immunology (Lymphoma).

He did his Ph.D. on Non-clinical Mammary Carcinogenesis with the entitled thesis as "Evaluation of anti-tumor potency on chemical-induced rat mammary carcinoma model and immunomodulatory activities of a hemiparasite Dendrophthoe falcata (l.f.) Ettingsh". His Master degree in Pharmacology was also on the similar vicinity of mammary carcinogenesis.

His research is related to molecular signaling on  mammary and liver carcinogenesis. Besides this, he also worked on different aspects of pre-clinical pharmacology and new drug development from natural resources, which clearly defined from some of his published research papers.


  Research Areas
 

We focus on the pre-clinical oncology research and our investigations on screening a new chemical entity with a definite molecular mechanism on advanced functional mammary carcinogenesis (representing the particular clinical situations) on experimental animals (SD rats and Albino mice) create a new challenge in the field of chemotherapy. For accessing our Goal we also try to work on the different arms of Carcinogenesis such as, angiogenic cascade (p-VEGF, MAPKs, Akt etc.) chronic inflammatory cascade(COX2), anti-oxidant cascade (SOD, GSH, Gpx & NRF2 cascade) etc. Angiogenesis symbolizes a crucial step in tumour proliferation, expansion, and metastasis, which makes it an active target during carcingenesis process and a principal target for our molecules.  

Besides this, We are mostly involved in the mTOR/PI3K/Akt Pathway in the vicinity of B-cell & PC lineage. Also, we are targeting the immunological targets for our Anti-cancer research.
