Overview

The Department of Food Processing Technology was established in 2006 with the objective of leveraging the opportunities available for trained personnel in this field.

The Indian food processing industry is one of the largest in terms of production, consumption and export prospects and has shown high growth in recent years. Also, food safety is a growing concern and there is increasing need to provide assurance about the safety and quality of food to consumers.

The Department was set up with the initial support of Rs .1 Crore received form ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India. The Department has also conducted/ participated in a dozen awareness programmes on food processing and has trained 80 candidates in Art of fruit & vegetable preservation on behalf of Department of Welfare, Govt. of Jharkhand, Ranchi.
